That link was nice, but I love it when they say things are dangerous but then can't tell you why.

But it's interesting they also said: They should only be given in a very limited amount on an infrequent basis.

Which goes back to the old saying "everything in moderation". No one needs to freak if their dog eats one grape.

I wouldn't quite freak, but I'd sure as hell keep an eye on them. My friend is doing a study at Michigan State University on this very subject and said as little as one grape can cause renal failure. I will ask about the specifics and get back with everyone.

I don't know if anyone remembers my story about Rocksy's dangerously high levels of creatinine that were recorded the day she went in to be spayed. The vet told us she could have a kidney problem - which was probably linked to her having no water for 12 hours before the op.
Anyway, the receptionist asked me at the time if we were feeding her any grapes - I said no. It wasn't until later that my wife told me she had given her a couple a few days before the surgery.

Now I'm not saying the grapes were definitely the cause of her high creatinine levels, but the vet was certainly surprised at the result and was just taking a stab in the dark with the no-water theory.
From now on though, I won't be taking any risks. Strictly NO grapes for our little girl!

ps. I do generally speaking agree with you though, CYNLABS. I live by everything in moderation!

They are not 100% sure what it is in grapes that causes the problems but they think it has something to do with the tannins in the grapes.
The problem with onions is they will attack a dogs white blood cells.
