Does anyone use a weighted vest in training their lab not to pull on walks? Is it okay to use this on a 1yr old 71 lbs pup?
I dont think a weighted vest will work...thats just my opinion.
What I would suggest, since I have done it and it takes time, work and patience is, buy a slip collar. Something that is soft like nylon. When you walk your dog put the collar under his chin high up on his neck. When he starts to pull, just stop walking. Call him over to you and repeat the process. It takes time and patience but they start to associate the tightening of the slip collar and pulling. Dont reinforce the habit by pulling back. Just stop walking and wait. Have patience
at 1 your dog is not full grown and you should NOT add weight or you can cause long term damage to the joints.
also - how is more weight supposed to "train" a dog to not to pull? i have never heard of this.
have you considered obedience classes and/or working with a trainer?
The trainer is the one who suggested the weight vest. My vet also said 6lbs won't hurt her joints. That is my concern, her joints with the weight. I used a slip collar and the weighted vest with the trainer and Zoe didn't pull me. Who do you believe????? Thank you for your response.
