Default How much does a puppy pee?

Hi everyone, Spike's mom here - we added a little girl, Tiller, to our family. She was born on March 13. I was VERY spoiled with Spike. He had his moments but he was a piece of cake to housebreak. Tilly is confusing the heck out of me. She pees, no warning. Can have her outside for an hour, she'll come inside and I swear she pees a 1/4 cup. She can go in her crate for about 5 hours at night after a 11 p.m. pee and no water after 7 - crated from 8 - 11 and then 11 - 5 -5:30. I put down wee wee pads and it seems like she never goes the same place twice. She'll pee outside but not seem very excited when she gets praised. After (immediately - like I barely had time to pick her up and before lunch she was outside for 1/2 hour being prodded to go pee pee until she fell asleep) lunch she took a big pee on the floor then barked. Why? lol. She is in the kitchen/family room and there is a door she can go to to let me know. She drinks alot. Should I limit her water? What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

she may have a UTI. I would bring a urine sample to the vet.

if a dog is outside for an hour but peed in teh first 5 minutes then it was actually 55 minutes since she peed so be aware of that when you bring the puppy inside.

yes limit when she can have water so you can get a handle of her peeing.

A puppy will pee after playing hard, sleeping or eating. We never limited water. Labs drink a lot of water. We leashed Sophie for potty time and after business was done, then unleashed her to play. We always went out the same door, to the same spot and used the same command. She was totally trained by 4 months, but was doing really well by 3 months. If you leash her, be patient. Keep telling her to potty or whatever command you chose. Once she goes, praise her and unleash her. The first several times it might take awhile to get her to go. Be prepared to wait till she goes. If you take her out immediatly when waking, she will chances are go potty and you can start the praise then unleash training.

Thanks - I called the doc about bringing a pee sample in and we have an appointment tomorrow. Most recent example that my brain was able to process . She was in her crate for 2 hours (I needed a nap lol) and went outside. She peed 2x , once a decent squat (couldn't tell how much came out) and again (smaller one), a poop and then one decent pee in the house and Spike just alerted me to another - so she peed 4x in less than an hour, at least 2 being decent size...

Yeah, it sounds like you need to take a urine sample in to the vet. Also, she might have an inverted vulva. Have the vet take a look.

Puppies pee.. a lot. It sucks. Sometimes it is due to a UTI or inverted vulva which is what my girl has. But some pups love to drink their water which equals lots of pee and some pups are just harder to potty train. Crate training definitely works well with this situation. I had to take my pup out every 1 to 2 hours when she was a baby (that included in the middle of th night) She is now going to be 5 months and just a couple weeks ago it seemed like her bladder finally grew bc she is really starting to hold it for longer periods of time. We can even sleep for 8 hours at night now with no potty breaks! Good luck and it wouldnt hurt to have her pee checked for bacteria and also to see if she has an inverted/recessed vulva. I know cranberry pills really help with symptoms of a UTI when there is or isnt one present.

My little girl pees... a lot. I have to kind of keep an eye on how much she drinks. If I don't she'll drink a ton and then pee every 30 minutes for a bit. She's much better at holding it now (14 weeks) but in the beginning it was a bit unpredictable. I only limit her water after 8 pm since we crate her around 10.
