Hi everyone.
Tilly is still having problems with weeing in the house. I let her out often and keep an eye out for signs. In fact when she needs to poop she does extremely well, she sits by the door and has even started crying or scratching or trying to open the door to get out. So she never poops in the house. But for a wee its the complete opposite. She goes out and spends ages outside (in this time I stay with her) and she will even sit and cry at the door to go back in...I try to leave it a while before letting her in just in case she needs a wee but she never does she just keeps crying, so we go inside and she instantly does a wee! Or she runs past me into the house and does a wee. For a wee she doesnt seem to have a warning either she just stops what shes doing and wees on the spot. She has done some wees in the garden. When she does I do the same as when she does a poop and give her a treat and lots of praise. I dont understand why it hasnt worked for weeing but has for pooping! I am doing the same technique :/
What should I do?
Young puppies have no warning when they need to pee, and have very little control. Just keep at the training and it will get better as she gets older. Sophie stopped going in the house at about 4 months. She is 7 months now, and asks to go out. It just takes patience. Keep up the same pattern of taking her out. Once her body starts to mature, she will contect the pattern you have established with the control her body has grown into.

Some dogs it takes time. I thought Kass would pee in the house for the rest of her life. I treated when she went out. I have been doing this with Tessa.Neither Tess nor Kass told me they wanted to go so I constantly take them out, close the door and with a treat in my pocket make a big deal of any poop or pee and treat. When they pee I have a special treat.
You could try getting a bird bell and putting on the door traiing her to ring it.
Hang in there.

Make sure you clean up he wee spots with a proper cleaner that will remove the smell as pups will smell where they have gone before and think that is the place to go.
What I have done with my couple of dogs I have had over the years is that every time pup goes pee outside I say 'Go pee' and point with my finger. Of course at first I am just saying this when he decides to go pee but if you do this every time after a while you should be able to be outside and say 'Go pee!' and pup will get that cue and pee before coming inside.
You had her using pee pads for quite some time, right? Or am I confusing you with someone else? It's hard to make the transition for some puppies. They've been taught to pee inside now you are asking them to change. It'll take time and patience. Hang in there.

How old is Tilly? I have a 15 1/2 week old black lab, Macy and for the most part she is completely potty trained. One of the best techniques I have found when it comes to potty training labs is to hang bells by the door you use to take them to the bathroom. Everytime you take Tilly out ring the bells and say the same command each time (I use "outside"). When Tilly successfully goes outside give her a treat immediately and praise her. If she goes inside tell her no and immediately take her outside (even though she just peed inside) to show her where she is allowed to use the bathroom. This has worked great for Macy and the only time she has an accident inside now, is when new people come over. She's just too excited she can't hold it. Hope this helps!
Hi thanks everyone! Tilly was on newspaper for the first week we had her but we stopped it because she was going inside more often than outside. We have had her for about 7/8 weeks now. She is four months old.
BlackLabMacy I am trying everything you suggest apart from the bell. Do you think the bell would make a difference? I think I will have to try it. Hopefully she will learn soon...I just remember house training our other two dogs was a lot faster...about 2/3 weeks and as more weeks pass I get more worried! I just find it so weird that she learned to poop in the garden very quickly and we dont have any poops in the house, she always goes and waits at the door. I am trying the same technique with weeing but it isn't working so far. We even decided to stop giving treats and just give praise for poops and to give her a treat and praise for weeing in the garden. By what age should I start worrying?
