Default Cant keep my lab off the couch!

Hi I'm looking for a little advise or any suggestions on keeping my 4 year old lab off the couch when I'm at work. He never does it while I'm home only when im gone. He has his own bed and iv tryed laying all my couch and put the ottomen up there on its side and just crawls up on top of it all. I have also heard about putting a carpet runner upside down but I honestly think he is stubborn enough that he would just lay on top of it. So please any suggestion that are safe and harmless for my baby would be appreciated, I hate having to vacuum my couch every day. Thank you, Charlie'sMamma

Crate him. To tell you the truth even if he wasnt on youe couch you will still have lab hair on it. There hair gets everywhere! They dont lay on my duffel bag but I have yellow lab hair on it. I'm pretty sure I have black hair on it tothat I cant see!!

Or, if you don't want to crate him...could you possibly gate off the living room (or whichever area has the couch?) so that he can't get on it?

I get that the hair still gets everywhere even if he isnt up there but when he is its a lot more excessive. I would totally crate him if he had a lot of bad behaviors but he doesn't....he is a good boy and don't want to crate him just for getting on the couch. I was hoping there is a way to teach him that its not ok.

I'd just cover the couch with a blanket or slip cover. He probably feels closer to you when you aren't home. Your sofa has the family scents on it.

if you are not home there isn't much you can do other than limit his access to the couch, either by not letting him int eh room with the couch or by putting things ON the couch so that he can't get on (well he can likely push it off but only if he really wants to haha)

He is Definatly a stubborn guy...if I pack stuff up there he will lay on top of it. Even if I leave a little small corner open with nothing there he will make his 100lb body fit there Haha but I still love him

Can you block the living room off with a baby gate as suggested above? I would put two so he coulnt jump over?

I remember hearing that aluminum foil is a deterrent. Something about them not liking the sound or the feel . . . I don't know, we gave in and sit on dog hair. Actually his fur just blends with the couch and we don't notice.

Sophie chews foil. We get it out of her mouth often...so I doubt it would work. I would just cover the couch when I'm not home.
