so Lion is 9weeks now, and im regretting ever giving him a chew toy.
how can i fix his bad biting? he licks, nips, bites, and when i try to correct him he thinks were playing and starts to try to overpower me.
it seems holding his muzzle saying no wont work
holding his gums on his teeth so he feels some pain wont work
tryed the finger in the mouth to make him gag but that just felt wrong
sadly im running out of common-sense options to try
i spent a week running to the other room crying and even licking where he bit me so he thinks im hurt but hes just a bully!
ill upload some pics but im in need of advice and some help
im always busy so i dont have the time i need to find good info about my little lab
i got him at 6weeks and i think HE thinks im a dog and hes my master.
please ask me about him! i need some sincere help
He's only 9 weeks! Holding his muzzle and saying in a stern voice "Don't bite!" will work. It takes awhile. They have to be old enough to begin to learn what is acceptable. Sophie had my arms torn up from her teeth till she was about 3 months old. She kept getting better and better till she quit all together. Have patience, stick a proper chew toy in her mouth when she does it. We always used the same "hand on the muzzle and don't bite" command every time she did it. Saying "NO" is too vague. You got him too young. Many states have laws about puppies going before 8 weeks. If yours had stayed in the litter longer, he would know that it hurts to be bitten. Puppies playing with their brothers and sisters teaches them this. You will find people on this forum tell you the same thing, your problem is that you got him before he was 8 weeks. Good luck, keep up with the same command each time, and it will be better.![]()

Use the search function on this forum to search for threads on this topic. There are literally hundreds of them.
This is NORMAL puppy behavior exacerbated by getting him so very young. Puppies learn valuable lessons from being with their siblings in the litter until 8 weeks of age. When they are removed early they behave with their humans as they would have with their siblings. It is not AT ALL about aggression, or bullying or trying to overpower you or him thinking you are the dog and he is the master. He is a baby. He is teething. He is learning about the world with his mouth. He will grow out of it.
Use search.

thanks for all the advicei will keep patient
i guess i forget to include information and people think i am bad for getting a puppy so young
i rescued this dog from a shelter from a litter left of 3. they were abandonded dogs who came from another shelter
it was either rescue him,(i tried to get him and 1 sister) or leave him there for even more time and more chance of him not getting a good home
he had massive flea bites, scarred tissue, mange on his leg?
ill upload some pictures later in the day
what can i do about the winer barker who thiks hell get his way if he just keeps whining cute!?i want him to whine or tap the leasch on the door to go outside but so far he can only
sit, down, speak(bark on command), and somewhat stay!
I remember that this was a shelter rescue - he was also neutered already, right?
You have very high expectations for this baby. At 9 weeks most puppies really cannot communicate their needs to a person - you have to work to build that relationship. Most puppies do whine a lot - they also have very small attention spans and can only handle a few minutes of training at a time. Please read the "our best advice" sticky in this forum at the top of the list.

Sophie is 5 months and still doesn't bark to go outside. She does go sit at the door, so we have to watch her. We have been telling her "Sophie Speak!" when she is sitting at the door. She will speak, but looks at us like "what am I speaking for, I don't see a treat!" LOL! You need to remember that labs are a good sized pup at 9 weeks, but still have only been on this earth 9 short weeks! They have to learn what is expected of them. It takes awhile. Did the shelter neuter your little guy? Some do, and boy, he is young for that if that's the case. Try to always use the same command for what you are teaching. We always use Sophie's name as part of the command, like: Sophie sit....Sophie shake...Sophie down...Sophie Speak etc. It not only reinforces the command but the name as well, along with getting their attention so that they know it is the pup you are talking to. Good luck, your pup will out grow the biting. Like I said it took till Sophie was about 3 months before she "got it"...

edit - yeah he was neuteredby law they have to neuter any animal leaving the shelter. - im in florida, (can u imagine they made a big deal about me taking home a 6week pup when he was sitting in a cage day and night with flea bites, bites from litter mates, and mange on his leg? its funny how they act as if he was better there!)

He's adorable! One day he'll be a great friend to you. For now, join me and many other lab owners navagating through babyhood! Just wait till he's big enough to counter surf! That is what Sophie thinks she can do when we aren't looking!

I was in the same boat, and I would cry because I thought we had made a huge mistake. You are not alone, and it will get better. When his teeth touched me I would squeal loudly and leave the room. Eventually all I had to do was squeal and he would stop, and then it stopped all together. Another thing I did was when I noticed he was starting to get wound up, I would redirect him to a chew toy before he started chewing on us. It took time and consistency, but it was well worth it. Bauer is an awesome dog . . . when he was 10-14 weeks old I never thought we would make it.
