    Default Vasectomy or tubal ligation?

Got this article from something I subscribe to - anyone know any vets who suggested vasectomy or tubal ligation?

I had heard of that...a show person had brought up the subject a couple months ago. My issue with a female is that they would still go into heat and have the chance of developing pyometra. I think the best solution for a female breeding dog is to let her have two maybe three litters and spay her. Pet dogs are different. I just wish more people were responsible. It is sad we have come to believe all dogs must be spay/neutered by 6 months. But the truth is, it is being done to control pet population. An average pet owner just doesn't have the ability to keep an intact female and not let it be bred. (at least that is how my county is) Our shelter is over run with lab and lab mixes, most of them don't make it out alive. There just aren't enough homes.
