    Default Collapse?

Spike does this sometimes. He did it when Bailey came for a visit (only once then they played heavily for 4 hours) he did it last night (we thought we had it as a combo of heat, humidity & excitement) but then it happened again this morning (he was laying around and it was just me & my coffee). He'll get up, walk, lose his balance, fall, lay there and snore maybe 5 or 6 breaths worth. Then he gets up and wants to go about the day normally. I brought him to the emergency clinic this morning, had a blood test done and the numbers aren't perfect but still good - a copy is being faxed to his kidney vet to compare with his last test. The emergency vet also suggested a consult with a neurologist and a cardiologist but we'll see. Anyone have experience with this? He is also still alittle anemic. Can it have something to do with that?

Ear infection maybe? Equilibrium could be off because of infection...ugh let's hope its something simple like that. So scary also saw vestibular disease. Did vet mention either of those?

Because thing is, when I saw his episode it wasn't like his legs just gave out from under him and he fell down quickly. He was walking and then slowly his legs started to give way and he was swaying...but still walking as legs were giving out...almost Luke a drunk person staggering is best way for me to describe it.

    Exactly!!

He has been tested for EIC - he's a carrier but doesn't have it. The gene is made up of 2 parts. he's got one. If he was to have puppies and the mom had one gene the puppies could have it. I don't think it's an ear infection - he would have problems more. Going to look up that other stuff mentioned. He's been eating alot of treats and other stuff lately - I think he digests on the slow side - I wonder if the food is fermenting in his stomache and giving him that drunk look ?

Narcolepsy? It has been heard of in labs and there is a gene test for it. He actually snores like he is asleep? Here's a video of narcoleptic dogs: Is It Possible: Narcoleptic Bear : Video : Discovery Channel

The test is through Optigen, although it comes as part of a package for much less here DNA Diagnostics, Inc. - Genetics, Forensics, Paternity, Human DNA Testing, & Animal DNA Testing Not sure what reputation this laboratory has.

Aside from that, maybe a past problem affected his brain and is causing small seizures?

That's interesting. I think he is due for his retest for Rocky Mountain. Maybe that didn't quite clear things up when he was on the Doxy. I'll give the doc a call later and see if I can get him tested for both these things.
