    Default So freakin jumpy

I bumped my foot. Spike jumped up from what appeared to be a sound sleep and let out a single, strong bark. He does this all the time - the washer is off balance, the kids walk around upstairs, etc. Is it because he's not neutered (I read that somewhere - that they can be jumpy) If it's not from that what's it from?

neutering has nothing to do with jumpyness. just like neutering doesn't "calm a dog down" nor does it "cause them to gain weight" or "loose their drive in the field".

some are just jumpy. thought i find even my fosters eventually get used to the nises (my window is off a noisy street so we hear alot of different types of noises). socialization also helps. but at the end of the day - if he is jumping out of a sound sleep it is likely just in his nature.

Duke is jumpy also, I contribute it to his personality as well. He also has a deep bark and sounds really mean when he hears something different. I think he is just aware and protective in nature. Even though Paisley is still young she doesn't do this, she doesn't bark when Duke is when he hears something. I am wondering is she eventually will or not.

Magnus can be jumpy at times, but its not a constant thing. He'll jump if he knows the sound (i.e. the garage doors opening means someone coming home to play), but other wise he ignores other stuff.

Paisley isn't much younger than Magnus (judging by her DOB in your sig) and rarely barks. Only for three things: a dog that won't play with him, the vacuum, and a knock on the door.

Duke barks at ANYTHING strange sound-wise. He's a good guard dog in that sense, but I am sure he'd lick a robber to death! Pais only barks if she wants to play as well! When Duke hears a sound and goes crazy she just looks confused and goes back to sleep! She's spunky too...I did find out however that she is afraid of the hair dryer, which Duke loves! He waits for me to get it out, stands in front of me and I have to blow dry him in between drying my hair. It's hilarious! Duke is terrified of the vacuum like Magnus though.
