So Cara is 9 weeks old now and she's learned to sit, down (halfway), come here, wait (stay) and bark on command. She's really cute and I love playing and spending time with her but lately she has been barking A LOT. Teaching her to bark on command was a way to hopefully teach her to be quiet but that has been the hard part. I'm doing something wrong here because she does not quiet down when I ask her. I want her to be quiet on command. I've tried ignoring her but that doesnt work either. It's really frustrating when she is just barking just to bark...
Do they calm down later on or do I have to teach her to not bark?
Puppies bark, that's how they show excitement. Just try to distract her with a toy etc. She has lots of energy. Make sure she is getting enough exercise. She's only 9 weeks and is still learning manners.![]()
First mistake was encouraging her to bark. Most are not all that barky that young. Mine was a whiner at 9 weeks and now is just starting to be a barker. Is she barking at you, at something else - does she have to go out? Usually they are communicating something when they bark. If it is just attention seeking (which is really hard to imagine in an infant) I would ignore it.
Sharon - still not a dude.
Bathroom
Food
Attention
Seem to be the three primary reasons that a puppy will bark.
Every time Riley barked when we first got him we walked him to the field for a bathroom run, about a 10-15 minute walk. It took 4 days (around the clock) but Riley quickly learned that you better need to go to the bathroom when you bark because you're walking to the field anyway! We make sure his feeding is on schedule and that he gets plenty of playtime and the result is a puppy that only barks when he needs a bathroom run...
yeah, he is just a baby, give him time.
You might try a spray bottle when you ask him
to stop and he doesnt !

I definitely wouldn't spray a 9 week old for barking
