    Default Bell potty training

Anyone have any advice on this type of training.? I think it seems pretty cool to have your dog ring a bell when it has to go out to potty. Has anyone tried this?. My dog is 2yrs old, he does great with going out, but he doesn't bark or scratch at the door he just stares at ya' and paces back and forth. is it too late to try it?

I taught Bentley to use a bell. Every time we took him out we made sure he either touched his nose or paw to the bell and made sure it rang. After he went outside nd did his business we would bring him in and ring it again. I don't think it is to late to try. It works for Bentley. The one hard thing is not letting them ring it when they want to play... Otherwise it will be constantly ringing.

we taught our bulldog, Chloe, to ring the bell to go outside (she's not a barker and staring at the door was not really working LOL).
She was already close to a year old before I read about it somewhere... It only took 2 or 3 times of ringning the bell (we rang it for her) before she figured it out. I plan to teach our puppy to ring the bell to go outside as well. it just makes sense (but yeah, Chloe sometimes rings it just cause she wants to play

My 12 week old Bella learned in about 3 or 4 days after we brought her home at 8 weeks. My other dog, a maltipoo, learned when she was about 2 years old. It took a little longer, but just ring it everytime you take her out. Labs are so smart I bet he learns quickly!

I trained our dogs when they were puppies. We just rang it every time we said 'let's go potyy' and went out. They learn very quickly.

Emmett was about 10-12 weeks old when I taught him, picked it up super quick.
My 14 year old GSP has taught the pup to ring it for him... LOL!

We're bell trained too. We had them ring the bell with their nose on the way out. As was mentioned, they pick it up super quick, but watch out! it's not always used for potty times!!

    What she said.

Rhys knows not to bark when he sees a squirrel outside...cause then I won't let him out. So he rings the bells and then goes out barking like an ass.

I have done it with a few fosters, they usually pick up quick. They were 5-6 months old. There are instructions with the pouchy bells but I did not use them. I put the bells on the door (I only have 1 door) and they rang when I opened it. The dogs seem to naturally pick uP that bells = outside and eventually would ring them themselves. But as mentioned above, they would ring just to go outside for a walk - not just to potty!
