Hey all, I'm a first time lab owner and have learned quite a bit in the past couple of weeks in between my few hours of sleep. I did a lot of research before and after getting Tripp but we can't seem to figure out why he is behaving this way. My wife gets to spend a bit more time during the day with him but he is already listening well to both of us. Thing is, he humps her legs, arms, head if she is bending over, anywhere from 5 to 10 times a day. He hasn't humped me once. I've read a lot about the dominance issue, but it just seems really weird that he only wants to hump her..? Does he feel more attached to her because he sees her more?
how old is he? humping can be caused by excitement, a need for more exercise, an invitation to play.. even a sign of stress. Try not to worry too much about dominance - your puppy isn't plotting a coup. Interrupt and redirect, and make sure he's getting enough physical and mental exercise \
he is 8 weeks. i've read a lot about humping and understand the behavior, my only question is why just my wife? and he's definitely getting enough exercise - i'm talking, i'll be in the middle of trying to wear him out, he'll stop, look at her, and go hump any part of her he can, then come back. just find it strange that it is all her and never me or anyone else
8 weeks? heh. He'll probably try it eventually with others, give him time.
Correct him. If he respects you, you correct him. He'll be big soon, its important to stop this now.

What kind of reaction is he getting from your wife?
