    Default Behavior change

This is a question about a friend's Golden granddog. (I guess it's OK to ask here since Goldens are labs' first cousins) This old boy belongs to a family with two young children(6 and 8). He is over 12 and is recently losing hearing, otherwise in good health. Everyone in the family works or goes to school so he has the run of the house until ~5PM. My friend goes over around one to let him out. Recently he has been messing up the house as a pup would - overturned throw rugs, shredded papers on the floor. He has never done this before. We think he sleeps most of the day. Any ideas about this behavior?

Kiddsmom, thanks for the info. I passed it on to my friend.
