    Default Crockpot Roast

This is an easy roast recipe that makes a nice gravy also.

2 cans Cream of Mushroom soup (I use the low sodium, low fat kind and it works well)
    1 package Lipton's Onion soup
    1 1/4 cup water
1 5-pound roast (any cut works well)

I got the original recipe from allrecipes.com (5 star rating with a couple thousand reviews), and it said to just put the roast in the crockpot and add the ingredients.

Well, I like searing my roasts so I rubbed the roast with garlic pepper and rosemary. I seared it in a hot skillet with olive oil. Then, I added it to the crockpot and put the ingredients on top of it. :-)

Cook on low for 8-9 hours or on high for 4-5 hours. Easy and very good.

what temp is your low and high? when it's cooked you take the roast out and slice it and use the gravy over the top?

Umm...I'm not really sure. My crockpot has 3 options - off, low, and high.

    Looks similar to this:

That's pretty much what we do - slice it and put the gravy over it.

oooh i see - we have a ceramic crockpot that goes in the oven. I might try low temperature in celcius and see how it goes.... if I keep an eye on it I should do fine I think!

The way I do my roasts is to cook them, let them get real cool, then slice them, put on plate and heat up.

So I tried this last night. MMMM. Very good recipe.

I made a few modifications though. You know how it goes, change one thing and you can't stop. I started with a smaller roast (2.1 lbs) since I'm cooking for me and cut the recipe in half. Well it just didn't look like enough water to me so before I knew it, I added too much. Then the roast looked a little lonely, so I added a few potatoes and some carrots. But they all seemed a bit standoffish, so I added some red wine to get the party started. It cooked overnight so I woke up to a wonderful smell. The roast is great but with all the changes I think I may have made beef stew. But a damn good beef stew.

Oh no, not at all. Any cooking I may be doing is late in life experiment.

Your version sounds great too - even better than the original.
