Baklava
Preheat oven 325
1 box phyllo dough, thawed
2 blocks butter, melted (1 cup)
3/4 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
3/4 c. sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
Glaze: (simmer, pour over baklava as soon as it comes out of oven)
1/2 c sugar
1/4 c water
2 tsp lemon juice
unfold phyllo, but to fit 13x9 pan (you will have 2 13x9 pieces and some left over at the bottom of phyllo, about 2 inches)
pour some melted butter on bottom of pan to grease
put 1/2 of the phyllo in pan
pour 1/2 of butter on phyllo and spread (1/2 cup)
spread sugar/cinammon/nut mixture over butter
spread pieces of phyllo over, then put other 1/2 of phyllo over
cut into squares or rectangles
pour rest of butter over
bake 325 for 50-55 minutes
Pour glaze over hot baklava

Thanks for posting this! I meant to ask you to do so. I have a hard time working with phyllo dough; do you have any hints for keeping it in good shape (not flaking apart or drying out) whilst baking with it?

Giada DiLaurentis says to always keep phyllo covered with a damp tea towel or dish towel to keep it from drying out and breaking. Make sure it is completely thawed before trying to work with it, too.

This is in the oven now. The cinnamon smells great.I'm making this for dessert since we had chicken gyros tonight. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I forgot I took a pic of it that night. I shared the recipe with an online moms group I'm in.I think I overcooked the baklava just a tad (I got busy with the kids), but it was delicious.
