My aunt used to make these years ago. I have no idea where the recipe came from. She'd make them Thanksgiving weekend and they were pretty potent by Christmas! lol
Spirit Balls
2- 7 oz packages pitted dates
1 cup pecans
1 1/2 cups vanilla wafer crumbs (48- 2" diameter cookies)
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup whiskey, brandy or fruit juice
2 T. corn syrup
Additional ground nuts
Force dates through a food chopper. Add remaining ingredients and mix well, Shape into 1/2" - 3/4" balls by hand and roll in additional nuts. Store in tightly covered container to season (about a month.) She always used a glass container but a plastic one would probably work as well.
