STROMBOLI
Rich's Frozen Bread Dough 2 loaves
1 lb. American Cheese - New Yorker has the nicest zing to it when warm
1 lb Genoa Salami
Parsley Flakes
Parmesan Cheese
Minced Onion Bits
Egg
Defrost the bread and let it rise.
PReHeat oven to 375 degrees
Roll out one loaf of the bread dough. Shape it into a long oval.
Start with the salami and put a layer onto the bread. Overlapping the edges so there are no bare spots
Repeat with the cheese.
Sprinkle onion, parmesan and parsley flakes
Take the top 1/3 of your stromboli and fold it inward
Take the bottom half and fold it upward overlapping the top fold by maybe an inch? not much
Fold the ends in enough to tuck it all in there. You shouldnt see any meat or cheese. Just a nice bread pocket.
Place onto a greased cookie sheet, fold side down. (or cover the cookie sheet with alum foil and spray that)
Poke with a fork all over the top.. about 16 times.
Whip a raw egg in a glass bowl with a little bit of milk or cream. Then with a pastry brush, coat the top of your stromboli, lightly.
Bake about 20 minutes or unti you see the top is golden brown.
*** Variations
Pepperoni and mozarella, add real peppers, add some sauce, add different lunch meats, whatever your family likes.
The original is our favorite although I have tried lots of different ones.
The above recipe makes 2 strombolis. Enjoy! Everyone in my house loves it.
