We bid good bye far too soon to our dear Max. He was only a part of our family for 2 1/2 years, having been "surrendered" (what a terrible thing for an old dog) to the pound at age nine. He was a gentle and loving friend to our 14 year old Lab, Nick. He was my eager walking partner for trips to the beach or around the neighbourhood, and companion at the barn where he loved to see the horses (I think he thought they were really big dogs!). He was a patient tutor and playmate for our new pup, Clancy. Sadly, his old heart failed him long before it should have or we wanted. We knew when he came to live with us that it would not be for long, but we had hoped for just a bit more.
We take comfort that Max is reunited with Nick at last.
