Hi Everyone! I currently have the Canon Powershot SD450 but would like to get a SLR and have no idea what to get. Could you help point me in the right direction? I guess one of the main things I want to be sure I can use the camera for is cold weather. We go snowboarding in Colorado every year and I would love to get some action shots - don't worry, I won't be shredding down the mountain with it, though!![]()
In reading through some of your posts on here, I am completely lost; so I know I will definitely be starting with the very basics, but I am very excited and eager to learn. Any info you can offer will be greatly appreciated!!!!!
I would look for one of the entry level DSLR. Either the Canon Rebel XT/XTi or the Nikon D40/D40x. I'm partial to the Canon. No camera is going to work it's best in cold weather. Cold weather is especially hard on batteries. Whatever you decide to do, go to a local store and handle every camera you are looking to purchase. Sometimes one brand with just feel better than another.

Thanks for the recommendations!!! I am so excited! I look at everyone's pics all the time and wish I could take better pictures! I might have to jump in on the ornament thread even with my little camera - those pics are beautiful!
Maybe I can talk DH in to getting the camera before Christmas - that way, I can use it Christmas morning!
1) Do your research - DPreview.com is a great site for reviews. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/
2) Search JL... There are numerous threads on digital cameras.
3) Once you narrow it down, then go to Best Buy, Sams Club, Costco etc and check out what they have.
Most of the sales folks don't know much so that's why researching ahead of time is important.
4) Pick the one that feels the best in your hands.
We just got the Canon Rebel XTi and I love it!!!!! Got a great deal on it too.

i hope to order in a few weeks.
Why the D40?
The D40's replacement, the D40x, has been replaced by the D60...
