http://www.iftheworldcouldvote.com/results I voted for change
I am hopeful that Obama will get in -- it will profoundly affect the world's relationship with the US, and after the past 8 years when alot of goodwill evaporated, we need a world leader who will inspire Americans and the world!
OK, I'm a optimist![]()

Yeah, don't count your chickens. The Democrats are all about doing away with NAFTA, or renegotiating it. There may be some looming trade battles between the Democrats and Canada. There is a lot of anti-trade sentiment in Congressional Democrats. A lot will depend on what kind of battles Obama is willing to pick with his own party.Originally Posted by Jan

As a strong proponent of buying local, I'm very much OK with trade talks coming up.![]()

There's a big difference in buying local (which still probably involves international trade at some point in the process) and isolationism. The latter is fatal to an economy. Unlike in 1500 when the name of the game was mercantilism, countries today just simply cannot compete without healthy trade with other countries. Drying up the billions of dollars per day of goods that move between the US and Canada wouldn't be smart for either country.
I know, Nick, but that isn't the only issue where they differ, and I'm thinking globally (and we do have oil and water - I wouldn't mind renegotiating the lousy deal we got with oil resources).
I think that it would be better for the world (not just Canada) if Obama gets in. We can't afford any more of the same-old-same-old.
Whoever gets in has a real mess on their hands. Hard times are ahead for everyone, and if we feel positive about change, we're more likely to accept it.
Ive just seen on one tv programme that any Americans living in Britain can vote at the American Embassy, never heard of that before![]()
That's why I was saying it may not be the best "ice breaker" for the two countries. Based on the statements coming from Congressional Democrats, the point of renegotiation isn't going to be to help Canada, it's going to be to help the US. There could be a big looming fight between the two countries if that happens.Originally Posted by Jan
