My 2 year old leased Nissan X-Trail failed inspection yesterday. Why? The rotors (?) on the brakes are grinding. A week ago I noticed a very slight noise & asked Steve about it. he said don't worry, he'd have them look this week during inspection. All 4 need replaced. WTF? It's 2 years old, leased brand new, under 50,000km on it, and I had it inspected in April and the guy said I had 60% on my brake pads then. we asked if that was ok he said oh yes, you are good for another 6 months, we'll replace them in Aug at inspection.
NICE $1100.00!!!!
I've leased a few new cars before and had them for 4 years, drove them WAY more and farther, and never had any brake issies other than the usual replacing the pads.
How does a new, leased, 2 yr old truck fail inspection?

I'm in the market for a new car and was looking at Nissans until an employee at the local Nissan dealer who is a friend told me Nissan is having major mechanical problems and trouble getting parts. She advised me to stay away from Nissans for the time being.

LOL! That's what I am thinking, Colin, but I'm a really calm driver (fast on the highway though :embarrass. I don't ride the brake.
I think having to replace the brakes on a gently driven truck after 2 years is insane. We also had to replace the now-bald factory all-season tires, the ones they put on are total shit. We needed winters anyway, but man, we had to buy winters AND all-seasons ($$$$) I am so easy on that truck and brakes & bald tires already?? Leases are supposed to make you feel safer with regards to shelling out for stuff like brakes after 2 years.![]()

I had a new Nissan Sentra leased prior to my truck, and I had not one spot of trouble with it, so I can't blame Nissan as a whole, but this particular truck is pissing me off to no end.Originally Posted by nellies mom

Is it not still under warranty?
We've had three Nissans- dh drives an 04 Altima. I had an 04 Quest and am currently driving an 08 Quest. We did have issues with the sensors in the tires with my older Quest. When we released our new van, we made sure they included a tire warranty. Other than that- we have not had any major issues with any of our Nissans.
Did you have it inspected at the dealership? If not, I'd take it back and inform them they need to repair it. There is no way you should have to pay for something like this. Those things shouldn't need to be replaced yet.
This is my dog. His name is Tucker. And we live in Ontario, Canada, eh!

That's what I think too, Aim.
My Sentra's factory all-season tires lasted the entire 4 years of our lease (we bought our own winters, of course), and I drove that car twice as much and far as I do my X-trail. I thought under 60,000km EVERYTHING was covered? Nissan isn't open til Tuesday because of the holiday, so I will call them then. I just took it to Midas Muffler yesterday because they are so close, and we *thought* we were only there for a tire change & inspection.

Can't you just get the rotors turned? I would think they shouldn't need to be replaced if they haven't been turned yet, and it would (should) be less expensive than buying new.

I don't know. The front one is "scored", so I assume that means it has to be replaced for sure. We'll be heading in to Nissan on Tuesday for sure for the total lowdown.Originally Posted by CJs Mom

Thanks I was seriously considering getting a MuranoOriginally Posted by nellies mom
Have someone else look at them. I just had the brakes done in my 96 Saturn for the 1st time at 80,000 (small car driven to work only). I took them in as soon as they began to make a lot of noise as they always made some noise. I had scored my front ones and they grined the rotors. Also I wonder why you need all 4 done...usually it is just the front ones as they do most of the work. I had new pads on the front with the rotor work and they cleaned and realigned the rear pads ran me $235.00. My BR just had rotors on his front brakes and new pads on all for for $450.00. I think Midas may be charging you for the worst case scenario make sure they know it is a lease and you are not planning on keeping it forever.
