*Update she had their little girl at 2:25 this afternoon she weighed in at 4 lbs. 13 oz.I haven't talked to them yet her husband text messaged me a little after 3:00.
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers hopefully she is doing well and won't spend too long in the hospital.
I just thought I'd update you on my friend that had her water break the Saturday before last. She still hasn't had the baby she's in the hospital and they are trying to hold off as long as possible. She is 33 weeks today I beleive. I can't beleive they have waited this long and from what her husband says she is really uncomfortable and bored out of her mind. Has anyone ever heard of someone having their water break and they didn't deliver the baby pretty soon after? I always thought they had to deliver once the water broke.
Any good thoughts for Stephanie and their baby girl would be greatly appreciated.
TIA.

Sometimes they do wait if the baby is very early in order to give the lungs time to develop. Amniotic fluid is constantly still being made, even after the sac ruptures. They may feel that the risk of infection is less than the risk of the baby's lungs not being ready at this point. I would imagine they will deliver as soon as they feel the lungs are mature enough- though 33 weeks is usually a good outcome, but the baby would have to be in the NICU for several weeks.

Thanks that was what I was wondering I know her husband said they are afraid to really check her because they are being extra careful about infection setting in. They did say when she went in initally (a week ago) the baby was over 4lbs which was really good for being this early so I hope that helps with the development too. Can they give steroids to the baby somehow before birth to hurry up the development like they do with premie's. I assumed the baby would be in NICU for a while though. Her first baby was a month early as well but is a healthy 8 year old now.Originally Posted by Bensons Mom

Yes they can, and that is probably what they are doing.Originally Posted by bacatherine

Her situation isn't all the uncommon, actually. I'm sure they are giving the baby steroids to mature the lungs.
And being bored is only a small price to pay to have a healthy baby.
This is my dog. His name is Tucker. And we live in Ontario, Canada, eh!

I'm glad to know it's not that uncommon I am sure the doctors know what they are doing. Everyone I know that has had their water break early had the baby shortly there after. One miscarried she was around 20 weeks and already had some type of infection in her placenta. The others were only 2-4 weeks early so they went ahead and delivered the baby.
