    Default BRACES ?

Our son has to have braces early next year. What are the costs that come up for us?

    Thanks Silvana

The costs can vary greatly. My Grandson just had his braces taken off last week. He only needed them on the top front teeth for 9 months. The cost was $1800 and included a retainer.

$4k is about right. I've had 3 in braces. Good grief. I could have had a car!

I would say $2k-$4k depending on how long, how intensive the treatment, what kind of braces (metal, clear, etc).

Oldest boy was about 6,000- daughter was about 3,000 and youngest son is only 300.00. We now have Kaiser- braces insurance, so that helps us alot. But those first two were killers.

The total -- including braces, retainer, all visits -- was roughly $4000. If you have dental insurance, see if includes orthodontics. Ours does, but has a lifetime cap of $1500 (on orthodontics)

DH just finished Invisilign Braces. They were cheaper than the regular, he had to wear them for less time, and it worked out better since he's wearing them as an adult (very few people realized he had them). That being said, they don't work for everyone. Original quote was $5300, but because of our insurance (Delta Dental) the agreed upon contract amount was $4200. Insurance paid $1000, so out of pocket was $3200. Everything was included (all visits, trays, retainers; he even lost a retainer and our dentist made another for free). Regular metal braces quote was $5800.
