This was held in the town next to us (and basically where I grew up). This is probably the only time a celebration was held for a man getting arrested. :P That arrest became the song Starkville City Jail. They gave him a pardon this weekend.

I loved that song when I was a kid, still do (but my absolute favorite is A Boy Named Sue). Of course, back then, I thought he really did get arrested for picking flowers. LOL
Great article! As a fairly new fan of Johnny Cash, it's great to see such continuing admiration for The Man in Black.
I was read an article in the USA Weekend insert in the Sunday paper titled, "Why American Loves Country Music." Martina McBride and Josh Turner were interviewed in the article. Josh was asked which artist convey the heart of country music best for you? Turner: "For me, Johnny Cash was the best storyteller to come to this town. He had the charisma. He had the intellect. He had the upbringing. He knew poverty, heartbreak, addictions and demons. I always call im a modern-day Bible character. He struggled with temptation. He stood at the top of the heap, and then he was at the bottom, too. Then he came back.
Josh also talked about how he found out Johnny Cash's address, went to this house, knocked on the door, and talked a little. He said, I walked away with tears just flooding out my eyes".
Such an influential man....R.I.P. Johnny....we miss you.
