My six year old son is a rock star in the making. LOL He wants guitar lessons, etc. and jumps around with a tennis racquet pretending to be a rock start. 15 years ago I knew every band, went to all the concerts, had the biggest cd collection, etc., but these days I am way out of the loop. He is totally done with any thing that smacks of "kid music". I need suggestions for real rock bands that are tame enough (lyric-wise) for a child to listen to. Has to be pop-y enough to catch and hold his attention, but "rock" enough to satisfy the emerging head-banger in him (That's my boy! LOL).
I'm stumped. Any one have any ideas? ;D

I'd go with the tried n' true.. zeppelin, aerosmith, ac/dc, GnR, Metallica
some of the later stuff from talli.. much lighter and kid-friendly i think..
"I'm glad I'm back too, Kel. You know your so special to me. Could not imagine my life without you in it. " - Ma

They were your words, Ma.. I wish they had been mine. I miss you.
Well you could always get him the Kidz Bop cd's. They have everything recent on there but they've made it all G rated and sung by kids.
At least then you could find out what exactly he likes?
The White Stripes or The Raconteurs. I've not heard anything in the lyrics that would be bad for a young kid...and if he wants an incredibly talented guitarist to look up to...Jack White is it. A-MAZ-ING.
Hmm...I only know of girlie stuff. ???
There are some 'christian' bands out there, some dont even sing about religious stuff, but because they are christian their lyrics are pretty tame. Like they dont advertise to be a 'christian group' they dont even sing relgious songs, they just HAPPEN to be that christian. I think 'reliant K' is one of those bands, they were popular a little while back, Im not quite sure though. anyone know?

Had to add the specific songs I'm thinking of:
White Stripes:
Seven Nation Army
300 MPH Torrential Outpour Blues (this one really sounds like Zepplin)
My Doorbell (I think a 6 year old would REALLY go for this one)
The Raconteurs:
Steady As She Goes
Level
Blue Veins (this one also sounds very much like Zepplin)
My kids like All American Rejects if i remember correctly they are pretty tame. One thing i am really bad at is censoring music, my older boys love Green Day and wowsa some of the language. We don't listen to like rap that talks about killing mothers and all that. or Marilyn Manson or some others.
What about Train? I love Bowling for Soup's latest cd but yeah if you can find a clean version.I don't know if they have that, I know on Itunes you can find clean versions of stuff.
Wendy in Oregon
The Clash and Social Distortion. Two of the best bands he'll ever be exposed to. Oh and the Pixies, Husker Du, The Cramps, Ramones...
Don't worry about the lyrics, he'll be picking this stuff up on the school grounds soon enough!![]()
"Travel is fatal to bigotry, prejudice and being narrow minded."
"Nothing is more responsible for the good old days than a bad memory."

I know of no self respecting rock band that is completely "clean". I am a rocker from day 1 myself, so my girls listen to VERY CAREFULLY SCREENED pre-recorded CD's of hand selected rock music. They love Ozzy, Motley Crue, Poison, Aerosmith, Metallica, Megadeth, etc. If you check lyrics you can find plenty of songs appropriate for a child (no sexual references, degrading to women, violent, cursing, etc.)Originally Posted by sitali
