My mom wanted to name me Nylah, but my dad wouldn't go for it.

Had I been a boy like everyone thought I was going to be, I would've been Bryan (Mom's pick) or Justin (Dad's pick). They couldn't agree, so it's a good thing I was a girl.

Jeannette! It was my grandmothers name, but when they saw me the changed to Carrie. I was almost Kelly too.

My dad wanted to name me Bridgette. Mom absolutely killed that idea. Her girls (5 of them) were going to have first names that would match nicely with any man's last name they ended up marrying. :

So we remain: Sue (not Susan or Suzanne, just Sue), Jane, Nancy, Elizabeth, Kathleen.

I was very, very close to being Brian. My father convinced my mother to name me Robin at the eleventh hour after my uncle, his brother.

While the "you have a girl's name" taunts were frequent in grade school, I couldn't be happier with my name. My uncle is quite the man to be named after.

But I was a girl so I was named Charla after my Aunt Charlotte and Glen after my Aunt Glendon.
