I'm wondering.. how feasible do you think it is to work full time during the week, and take on say.. 20ish hours at night or on weekends.
I'm thinking about taking on a second job for nights and weekends so i can pay off my debt and save a some money for a house.. but i'm afraid of burning myself out if i do too much.
I make decent money working for the gov't.. and i could get an easy job at all call centre (inbound) that would work around my work schedule. It'd be about $10.50 an hour.. not a lot, but not bad for inbound customer service.
Does anyone work a full time and a part time job? Is it difficult? worth it?
"I'm glad I'm back too, Kel. You know your so special to me. Could not imagine my life without you in it. " - Ma

They were your words, Ma.. I wish they had been mine. I miss you.
That's ambitious Kelli.
No advice, I just know there are some days/weeks I am too physically burnt out to even contemplate doing a 2nd job.
Good luck though - it's a great idea if you can do it.
I do it. It's very difficult. If my SU didn't support me 100%, keeping the house running in general and attending to thinks like banking and supermarket duties, I could never, ever do it.
I work 40hrs here at the office, and then about another 20hrs/wk at church... sometimes more. My biggest threat is exhaustion -- there's very little 'downtime' at all.
But it does bring in the cash, so if you can bear the load, it will help you financially.
I used to work two jobs. I had my fulltime job and I would remodel houses on nights and weekends. I would pick and choose my side jobs, as I had to travel for my main job. I did that when I was younger and the kids were little. I don't do the side work anymore. I miss the income, but all those years of 80 plus work weeks just tired me out.
The second job isn't a bad idea, if you tell yourself it is only until certain goals are met. Sometimes you end up getting used to the extra money and it's not bonus money anymore. It becomes part of your budget.
I did it for about 6 months. It was hard on me and Allie but we pulled through. You're tuff hit it and hit it hard.
My husband works a full time job and then part-time at a hardware store on Fridays and Saturdays. Has Sundays off to be with me. I work full-time with weekends off. He likes the hardware store because he gets a great discount! But, there are times when family gets together and things come up that he wishes he could be at. The money is always nice, but you have to decide which is more important, spending time with family or having just a little extra cash. It's a tough one. We have decided to go with the part-time job for another 6 months and then discuss it again.
I did it for about 3 or 4 years.* I worked full time for the hospital system as an accountant and part time for AAA when routing and trip planning was done by hand.* I left for work at 7:30am and got home at 9:30pm Monday through Friday.* But I was young and stupid then probably early 30 to mid 30's.*
If you pick the job right you are ok but make sure you schedule at least 1 day per week that you don't work.* Working 7 days a week will kill you quickly.

I'm doing it. I get kind of tired some days, but it's not bad.
I did it for about 6 months after I got my first real salaried full-time job... I got a job working retail evenings and weekends... the problem with that wasn't as much the hours (although it was tiring), but that the pay just wasn't worth it (it was like $7.00, if that) and colleagues from my university would shop in that store so I was a bit embarrassed (yeah, I'm shallow, I admit it).
You could give it a try and see how it goes. You can always leave the job if its not doing it for you.

I do it too! I work 40+ hours at my main job..and then Williams Sonoma appox. 18-20 hours on nights and weekends. I like it but have only been doing it a short while.
