This song is being used in a Gears of War commercial (an XBox game, I believe.)
I remember this song and so does Jason, BUT we googled it and the only people we can find that recorded it were Tears for Fears and Gary Jules. It's definitely not the Tears for Fears version I remember and I've never heard of Gary Jules. Did someone else cover this song? Why do I remember it? It's driving us CRAZY!
I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had...
I believe REM did a cover, as did Michael Andrews (he did the tune for the movie "Donnie Darko" with Gary Jules). Andrews' video is kinda neat. Here's a link to it:

I thought it sounded like Michael Stipe too, but I couldn't find anywhere that they did it.
I guess the Gary Jules one is the one I'm thinking of - it's the one that SOUNDS most familiar to me, but I really had never heard that name before today. Or at least, I didn't remember it.
Other bands who have covered the tune (according to Wikipedia):
The Red Paintings
Nu Romantix
Evergreen Terrace
Brainclaw
Martin White
BLESTeNATION
Alex Parks
Finch
Wise Guys
Trampled by Turtles

I think I'm mistaken about REM. The Michael Andrews version does soundlike Michael Stipe, to a degree.

I never saw the movie Donnie Darko - I wonder if it was used somewhere else and that's why that line is sticking out to me.
I dunno. It's a dark song and once you know the lyrics, they're pretty hard to forget.

It is Tears for Fears.
