So last night our group of friends had our holiday party. We usually do potluck dinners once or twice a month (everyone loves to cook) with a theme. The hosts of the holiday party suggested an Iron Chef theme. You had to submit an entry for either appetizer, main course or dessert using at least one of the following ingredients:
red or green peppers
red or green apples
pistachios
cranberries
Wow. Did everyone step up to the plate! We had risotto balls breaded in pistachio breading; pistachio bread, cranberry pistachio rice, cranberry sauce, green chiles stufed with a stuffing with cranberries in it, a turkey roulade with an apple-pistachio-cranberry stuffing; cranberry bark and an apple pudding. The food was all amazing. Several people were secretly picked as judges and....
hubby won with the turkey roulade!! The hosts had an apron made up with our group logo (we're dorks, but we have a group page on FB with a picture logo) and Iron Chef 2009 made up on it! How cute is that?

(Time to post recipe in Recipe section hint hint)
Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you find that money cannot be eaten. - Cree prophecy
Melissa, you and Pete have the coolest group of friends, I swear! I still want to come to one of your Thanksgiving recovery parties.
That sounds amazing!!

Its so funny...we just met all these people this summer. The wine shop we go to every friday night for tasting had a mixer over the summer at the owners house. We met several couples there and have kind of expanded to include all the regulars (aka winos) in our age group. We are all foodies, love to travel, and very few of us have kids. Its just been amazing how much we all instantly loved each other. Most of us are in town so its easy to get together. Its kind of been like "where have you been all my life?". We're all so lucky to have found each other. It seems like several of us have either recently relocated, outgrew their old group of friends, or just don't fit in with their friends who have kids or different interests. Its been a boon to all of us.
