Default Yesterday was the soft opening of a new village pub

A pleasant surprise in our village yesterday with opening of our only local pub.

We have been watching the remodeling activity with interest and had no idea what type of pub this would be. People tend to create businesses that a village can support. I was amazed at the decor, layout and ambience this pub had to offer. I would have suspected that this new pub might be a ho-hum watering hole with limited beer and wine selections tailored to a poor village population. I was absolutely blown away by the craft beer selection but what really amazed me were the owners.

A very young couple bought this deserted building, completely renovated it. Their attention to detail, their dream to be a place that people talk highly of , and the warmth and hospitality as hosts was unexpected.

It is wonderful to see young people with the dedication and vision in a world where many feel that this particular generation wants things handed to them.

I hope they enjoy the fruits of their labors for many years to come. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this place. You can get a beer and any sandwich anywhere but you can' t find what these young folks created as easily.

Edited to add: This building was once the place where passengers would load and un load off the barges of the Old Erie canal. The main street that runs through my village was built over the Erie Canal. Other than a few mills and a handful of store fronts not much was left after the canal was re-routed. this building is steeped in history and the owners could have easily disregarded it's past. Congrats to them for preserving a little of the past and having the historical knowlege to share with their customers.

How nice! May their endevor flourish! A good neighborhood pub is a blessing for the whole community - even if you don't drink - just somewhere everyone feels welcome!

It sounds absolutely delightful. I hope the owners have a wonderful, happy experience running it.

But is the food any good?

That seems to be a trend coming back around again...the neighborhood pub with good quality beer. I'm a fan. I always hated the loud bars.

It is a nice trend. I like quiet socialization. Good conversation, good food and good friends. Loud bars don't do it for me anymore.

The former is far more common than the latter, in my experience. Unfortunately, too many people seem to buy into the broad and negative generalizations cast against the younger generations. Hopefully this new business will get enough support to make a go of it.

Sounds like a great pub! I'd like to see more like that. It's hard to find somewhere that you don't have to shout to each other because of the loud music.
