Default I found a Pug pup (Update in 1st post)

    Update:

    Nope didn't get him.

First red flag - I go to take my shoes off BEFORE going in the house. I got told, don't take your shoes off it's OK.

Me: but I don't want to go near pups with shoes on. I don't want to spread any germs in your house.

Her: It's OK, don't worry about it.

Me: (Thinking to myself) HELLO!!! isn't this one of the best ways of spreading parvo? Not that I'm saying I'm walking around with parvo on my shoes but with pups that age, I'd expect a decent breeder to be paranoid about it.

Second red flag - She had 2 baby cots with about 8 pups in each one. Me: How many litters is this? Her: Ummm, three.

Me: So where are the parents?

    Her: Outside in the run.

We go outside. She had a double garage with 5 separate runs & about 3 dogs per run. It was all concrete. She said she had a grassed area on the other side of the garage but I didn't see it. The dogs have separate kennels that house about 3 dogs each inside the garage at night.

Me: Which are the mothers to the pups?

Her: (pointing to the dogs), that one, that one & umm (looking around confused) that one.

Me: So how do you know which mother has which pups?

Her: I don't. I just put them all in together.

    Me (thinking to myself WTF????!!!!)

Me: So who are the sires?

Her: Ummm, that one & that one.

Me (thinking to myself) Are you sure?

Third red flag - Me: What's wrong with that ones coat? Has he had a bad case of eczema?

Her: No his coat is starting to re grow. I clipped him. If you clip them, their coats grow back thicker. They look lovely.

Me: (thinking to myself) WTF??????!!!!!!!!!!! Since when did Pugs get their coats clipped????? Are you MAD??????!!!!!!!!!!!

Fourth red fag - Their tails hardly had any curl in them nor did the pups. A major fault in the breed standard. Also, their black markings were far too pale. Another fault. I don't want a show dog but I still want one that's as true as possible to the standard.

Sixth red flag - we go back inside to take another look at the pups. She picks one up for me to have a closer look.

Her: They've got nice soft coats. I bathed them this morning.

Me: (Thinking to myself, WTF????!!!! YOU DON'T BATH PUPS AT 5 WEEKS FFS!)

Seventh red flag - Me: So which one of these pups is the one that hasn't been sold?

Her: I don't know. I just hand them out & you take what you're given.

Me: (Thinking to myself. GET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE!)

I told her I would go home & think about it & I'd ring her later tonight. Ummm I don't think so!

So to summarise: You pay $1,500 (Yeah I know, it's the going rate here) for a pup that you can't choose, from parents unknown so if any health problems arise in those pups, she has no idea which line is at fault & which dogs NOT to breed from to prevent any more disasters.

    I'll keep looking thanks.

On a side note, I learned a very important lesson about Bear from this exercise. DON'T give him a carrot before taking him for a long drive. On the way home along the highway, I heard this noise coming from the back seat. I looked in the rear mirror to see him his carrot back up. I had nowhere to pull over so I had to clean it up when I got home. GREAT! Good thing for him is, he's now having chicken for dinner tonight.

And so the search continues ........

I finally found a breeder about 2 hours away from me. She has 1 boy left. He's 5 weeks old. This lady has had about 40 years experience behind her so it sounds hopeful.

Off to see him now. Watch this space.
