Amazon has EXCELLENT customer service!

I got my Kindle 2 in January of 2010. I didn't buy an extended warranty (which would have been like $70 or something). I have never had a problem with it . . . until yesterday. I picked it up last night, looked at the Virginia Wolf screensaver, flipped the switch, and only 1/2 of Virginia disappeared. Text on 1 side, Virginia on the other.

This morning I checked Amazon's Kindle support page, and couldn't fix the problem. At the top there is a "contact us" button, I filled out the form and asked them to call me. Five seconds later my phone rang, and it was Kindle support. The guy asked a couple of questions, and said that since it was out of warranty (I was expecting the brush off at this point) he couldn't replace it for free, but he could replace it with a Kindle 3 keyboard 3G for $40 plus shipping. Forty-dollars!!!! I was stunned, and very appreciative; then he said, "I'll send it 2nd day and waive the shipping!" I didn't ask, but I'm sure it will be a refurbished one, and probably the one with ads . . . but I don't care!! I buy a lot from Amazon, and with this kind of customer service . . . I will continue to buy a lot from Amazon!

That's awesome!!! and I'm pretty sure the 3G doesn't have the ads. I've also heard they are not a big deal.

I actually heard the ads are pretty great - they have deals sometimes where you can get Amazon gift cards for half off. I know someone that bought one with the ads and had a problem with it. When Amazon sent her a new one it was without ads and she was bummed!

Sandy had a similar experiece but I think her kindle was a little older. I've had great experiece with amazon customer service.

I don't care one way or another about the ads (although if they're good I might care ). I was just so thankful to get it replaced, I use it A LOT! I would have bought a new one if they hadn't replaced it.

Nope! I played it nice . . . to the extreme; which wasn't easy for a nasty, heartless witch! After the call I drank some blood, kicked some kittens, and I feel like I'm back to myself again.
