We just got the email fro the girls' school that they are considering uniforms. They are polling parents to see how they feel about them. Their school was one of the Catholic ones that did not have uniforms, I hope they aren't too expensive, if they decide to go with them.
Even if they're a little more coin upfront, in the long-run, you'll probably save a few bux. No need to chase after the latest fashion trends. And with a little adaptability (long-sleeve sweater; short-sleeve sweatervest; long-sleeve blouse; short-sleeve blouse), they can cover all seasons.

Our kids don't wear uniforms until high school.
In August we will be taking Kelsey to get hers for grade 9 (gulp!). And we were told they run about $300 for a full uniform of a kilt, pants, sweater, long sleeved shirt, golf type shirt. And that may actually include two pairs of pants. Not sure if the younger kids would be less expensive or not. We've only got one store in town that does uniforms for the Catholic board.

We said we would support the board's decision for uniforms. People we have met here who live outside city limits have 2 girls with uniforms and have no complaints. She said it takes the argument out of laundry in the mornings.
As an adult i wish i had had them back then.. no spending hours wondering what to wear or (for the most part) competing on the fashion front..
As a highschooler.. i would have been pissed.. no jeans?!

I wore a uniform through elementary and high school. I don't think I was too pleased about it but my mother sure was !
Don't the schools have "Free Fridays?" where students can wear jeans? Maybe that was only one Friday a month. The independent private Catholic schools back home did.
Amy, from what I understand, the OCSB does not have mandatory uniforms until HS, but it is up to the individual elementary school, it seems. Outside city limits it seems to be all uniform all the time.
Free fridays are what kill Dweck's thought on fashion trend chasing.
My bff was at a catholic high school and she STILL had to buy all the Ralph Lauren Polo shirts she could because of Free Fridays.
=)
I just dated myself there..

I would not have liked wearing a uniform....
The high schools here have civies day. I think it is once a month or every other week or something, but it's always a Friday. And they donate a loonie or toonie to a charity to wear their civies.
I'm looking forward to uniform days.I totally wouldn't mind it if the elementary schools had uniforms. Would make my life that much easier.
