Anti-Islam Florida church plans Koran burning despite Gen. Petraeus concerns | courier-journal.com | The Courier-Journal
My church has been discussing this for the past few weeks. My minister said he would like to know what verse in the Bible this guy is reading. According to his (my minister's) reading of the Bible, we are commanded to love God and love our fellow man. This in no way shows love and respect.
One of the ladies in my Sunday morning class is a former missionary to the Middle East. She said that the missionaries in Indonesia are already being targeted because of the hatred and disrespect that this church is spewing.
Sigh. When will this end.

Somebody has to stop this idiot. The consequences could be terrible.
Ummm... I guess nobody's going to play the Freedom of Speech card?
I'm not pro-ANY book burning. Nor am I pro-flag burning. I might be pro-bra burning, but that's another issue.
I don't agree w/it. But as distasteful as I find it, they've got the right.

Seems like they have the right to do it.

Whether they have the right or not, it's going to have far-reaching repercussions that I would think they would want to avoid.
Plus as "Christians" it's appalling to me that they've even considered it - rights or no rights.

No country allows full "freedom of speech", nor should they. I know that Canada is much more strict (for example, the lunatic Westboro Baptists are not allowed into our country). Do you seriously think anyone should have the right to spew whatever hate-filled message they want, with no consequences? Sounds like anarchy - not democracy - to me...
Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak without censorship or limitation, or both. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes used to indicate not only freedom of verbal speech but any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, such as on "hate speech".
