Angry Irresponsible dog owers with agressive dog.

I found out from my mom this morning that one of their neighbors was seriously attacked by another neighbors dog last Friday. The neighbor who was attacked was just going to get her paper like she does every day (all the boxes are at the end of the road) when the dog attacked her. She had 20 stitches in her face and ear and was also bit on her arm and leg. The dog owners are directly across from parents house and they also have to get their paper from the same bank of boxes. They have always had 2 large agressive dogs since we moved there 23 years ago. They are always allowed to run free where ever they please. They chase all cars that drive by and have bit others before luckily not this badly though. I'm not just talking about this particular dog this time either all their dogs have been this way. They never bothered me much as I was sort of friends with one of their kids but I know when I was younger one of the dogs they had at the time bit several neighbor kids that have been riding their bikes.

What really made me mad though was that after this last attack they didn't want to put the dog down. This dog has bit others before and after this attack it's obviously not safe to have around. They have 8 kids (mostly grown) and grandkids around there all the time. Let alone the other neighbors kids to worry about and they want to keep the dog. If it was a loved pet I might see a little more I would fight for my dogs but this one isn't they want them to be agressive and never pay the dogs much attention. And the lady attacked was a long time neighbor and I thought friend of the dog owners.
Grrrr..I'm so mad mom said the injuries were not life threatening at least and she will be ok, but the dog got her face pretty badly and they lady is probably around 60 so they will watch her close.

Well, since she got stitches, the dog attack had to get reported, so luckily it may not be up to the owners.

They put the dog down yesterday but only because the insurance company refused to pay for the medical expences if they didn't.

Around here that dog would be dead and the owners fined.

That's so sad. It's not the dogs fault, it's the asshole owners. People suck.
I hope the lady will be OK....

I agree with Amy. It's so sad for the dog, horrifying for the woman who was attacked, and probably doesn't make one whit of difference to the dog's owners.

Oh, I agree it's not the dog's fault either here - he/she had really shitty owners. But when a dog attack is that serious, it's usually mandated that the dog is destroyed. One would hope the owners would be barred from owning any dogs in the future, but it seems that piece of it never happens often enough.

I agree it's not the dogs fault like I said all their dogs have been this way it's the owners making them that way. I can't say I've ever seen them be mean to any of the dogs I think it's more indifference they don't try to socolize them at all. Unfortunatly they still have another big dog there that is probably agressive too although luckily it was only one that attacked her not both. Mom said it was the insurance that demanded it be put down but I would think the law would require it too since it was such a bad attack.

I can't imagine why the neighbors have tolerated the dogs for this long...sounds like they can't control any dog and I would be calling the cops every time the dog was out. We have neighbors down the street that are the same irresponsible crap dog owners. Their dogs were always roaming the neighborhood, well it did take their dog running across two yards and attacking our dog right near our daughter for my hubby to go over and give them the biggest chew-out ever. But also other neighbors started calling the police. They were given a thousand dollar fine (neighbor gossip) and finally they put up a fence. Idiots!!! Our neighborhood only tolerated it for 2 years, can't imagine 20.
