Flyer has his first agility trial in 2 weeks..he's only entered in one class (JWW) each day....He is my 4th agility dog ..1 retired and 2 currently competing..he is better than any of my other dogs at this stage of his training..so why am I getting nervous????????????????

It's natural to be nervous. Yes, you are experienced but it is a new dog. Looks like you have high expectations for this one too.

I think Ann is right. Each dog is different and will run differently. Even though you are experienced, your new pup isn't yet. I think its normal to be nervous. Have faith in yourself and in Flyer and you'll be sure to Q.

do you have a strategy for dealing with nerves? I'd develop one - be it visualization, warmup routine ... whatever ... and rehearse it

That's one good thing about agility. Once in the ring, you have no time to be nervous. Obedience is another story!! ;-)

I watch people at trials and I can see a real difference in the handling of people who are nervous at the gate or on the start line - they may not know they are nervous but it does affect your handling for sure ...
the mental aspect of sports has fascinated me for years - it's one element of the "game" that I have worked on my whole competetive life
being physically tired should calm them though![]()
