Default If I wanted to begin feeding some real food - ??????

Are there any good books that describe how to do this. recipes for food and treats? What about foods to stay away from?

Do you mean a raw diet or a homecooked diet?

For raw, I would pick up Kymythy Schultze's "natural nutrition for dogs and cats" and also read some of Tom Lonsdale's books

For Homecooked I would look for books by Dr. Pitcairn.

    Hope that helps!

I am thinking homecooked. I know wild animals eat raw meat, but I just can't put my mind around it.

Pitcairn is a GREAT home cooked resource. He gives recipes and everything.

    Here's his book:

    I like http://www.switchingtoraw.com/ and http://www.kymythy.com/

If you don't want to feed raw then you can just cook it but they are still great books. Dr. Pitcairn has a supplent mix for people that cook the food.
