thinking about starting raw and have some questions
first of all I was wondering if a pup can be started on raw, my cricket is 14 wks old. I was also wondering about the price of raw products and rather you have to buy from a supplier. Can you just get it from a butcher or store? My local butcher usually tosses what isn't needed such as bones and organs. I have actually gotten beef leg bones to treaty dogs once in a while and they have quite a bit of meat plus the pups love them. Any information would be appreciated!
Re: thinking about starting raw and have some questions
Go in and ready Fall River's website--she weans puppies to raw. She has lots of great info on her website. [url=http://[url]http://www.fallriverlabs.com/Intro.html] http://www.fallriverlabs.com/Intro.html I have found feeding raw to be about the same as if I were feeding a premium dog food. I get stuff from Hare Today and other sources. I also am part of a raw feeder's group that goes together to get stuff.

Re: thinking about starting raw and have some questions
You can get a lot of meat directly from the grocery store such as, liver, gizzards, pork, whole chickens, turkeys, cornish hens, beef, etc. I have never been able to find green tripe at the grocery store...And I haven't had any luck with the local butcher...they are so "commercialized" so I guess they don't have any of the good stuff!
Try and do a search for a raw feeders group in your area. They generally have more of a dog selection like different cuts of meat, bones, tripe....Only suggestion is, I found that if I was going to order from a group like this, I needed an extra freezer since a lot of things come in bulk.
And yes, you can feed a pup raw! The sooner the better in my opinion. Good luck
Re: thinking about starting raw and have some questions
I agree with both of the above posts. I get my meat from the local slaughterhouse. I also supplement with other meat from the grocery story meat counter. I order green tripe from Hare Today. GREEN tripe, is actually not meant for human consumption, and therefore it won't be sold in the grocery store.
Good advice on reading Fallrivers website. Also, ask questions....
