Hi Group,
Wondering if you guys have recommendations/preferences for shampoo and for tick prevention? The shampoo is just for regular bathing.
For ticks though..... I can't tell you how many ticks I remove from Tiegan weekly now... never have I seen them so bad.
Thanks,
Doug

It's a VERY bad year for ticks here, Doug. I've given up walking Shelby in the woods ... but she even brings them in from our yard.

Hi Laurie,
Super Bad, huh?! I pulled 3 off of me last week and like 7 off of Tiegan. Only one had attached itself to her, which happened yesterday. Man I hate Ticks!

Doug first, why do you want to shampoo her? Shampoo ruins labrador coats. I have dogs who haven't been shampooed since they were very young puppies rolling in very gross things. And no, my dogs don't stink! As a matter of fact, puppy buyers come to the house and say my dogs all smell like DownyIf she is dirty, a rinse in water will do. If you feel you must shampoo her, I like the Biogroom Oatmeal shampoo.
As for ticks, you can try some marigold oil or citronella spray. Alternate, get a tick comb and give her a quick once over once you get home. Ticks are pretty large and not too hard to find.

Hi Dana,
I have not bathed her since getting her. I wanted to do it yesterday b/c of two reasons. She went swimming in a creek that had some muddy creek water, and more importantly she has a large (vulva- I think is the correct term), and it gets and can get bad w/ dermetitus. So I wanted to clean that w/ a gentle washing.
I will have to check out the tick comb.... have not seen those.
Someone recommended this product for ticks: (long links)

I don't shampoo my Labs either. Rather I will put them in the shower and hose them off. About the only time I do use shampoo on them is when we have been to Kentuck Horse Park and my yellow Lab looks black and I don't want the dirt in the house. But, that still means a shampoo bath about once a year, if that. I use Oxyfresh's pet shampoo--it rinses out really well.
If I need some type of flea and tick protection, I use Neem spray.

At least you have a yellow doggie. Try finding them on a black one.Originally Posted by YellowLabProject

Ok, I'll tell on myself. I found a growth on Micah a little over a week ago and was paniced, to say the least. E-mailed Dana about it and we were going back and forth about possiblities. This was a Saturday night, mind you. Went to a show on Sunday and was talking to some Golden breeders that I'm friends with and showed the growth to them. Jan told me it was a huge tick and got it off for me. What a relief but boy did I feel stupid! Now, I have taken numerous ticks off my dogs over the years but like I said I had never seen one this big! Plus it was so huge it was the same color as Micah's skin. :ugly: :whatever: Good scare that came out for the good!
Ok! There Dana! Told on myself!![]()
