    Default Throwing up.

This is day # 5 on raw for us. Feeding chicken backs, necks, heart, and yesterday fed sardines. (I cannot find a whole fish of any kind but that). Last night, about 10 hours after feeding, 3 of my 4 vomited bile. Just yellow bile, no bones or parts of anything. What's up with that ?

Hmm, I have heard that vomiting and other such things can be part of the detox process days or even weeks after the switch. :-\

Also, from my understanding, raw food digests much quicker than kibble, so maybe their stomachs have to adjust to being empty more of the time, if that makes sense, because things are moving more quickly through the system....? Just some thoughts, hopefully someone else will be more helpful!

Richer foods may create bile vomits. You will also see it if they have eaten larger chunks of bone. No biggie as as their gut adjusts, it will go away. I bet you get it again when you feed lamb.

Was this the first time you fed sardines? Were the sardines out of a can? If yes, then were they packed in oil or water?

Yes it was the first time I fed sardines, they were canned, and in water. The heads and tails had already been cut off, so I don't think they were that much good...... but it was the first time for sardines. Should I stick with just chicken and the hearts, and no other types of meat, for awhile ?

There's really no benefit to feeding sardines in a can because they're cooked. That may be the reason for the throwing up. I can only recommend feeding whole raw sardines. You can find these as frozen bait at Bait and Tackle shops. I've also heard they're sold as frozen bait at WalMart but I can't confirm it.

ok, can you answer me this ? Feeding whole fish.... is it true you shouldn't feed fresh water fish ? I read that in Tom Lonsdale's book. Atleast that's how I understood it.

I think it's more a matter of more risk and less benefits in feeding fresh water fish compared to certain salt water fish. The risks of fresh water fish include a larger array of parasites and accumulation of toxic pollutants especially in closed lakes. You can eliminate the parasites by freezing but you can't get rid of the pollutants.

The main reason for feeding whole raw fish is the benefit from omega-3 fatty acids. Fresh water fish just don't contain anywhere near the level of omega-3's found in salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, etc.

I've noticed with my girls that they vomit bile after eating something really fast. It doesn't seem to matter what type of food, and both have been always been fed raw. I've always wondered why too.
