My dad and stepmom own a golden retriever pup, he's about 6 months old. They currently feed him Blue Buffalo Kibble. I've tried to persuade them to try a raw diet based on the prey model, but they turned down the offer. I was thinking that maybe I could try reccomending them a good VEGGIE FREE commercial raw food. That way they can try it out but still have the feeling of security that comes with feeding a 'commercial food'.
My goal is to get them to try the commerical raw. I think that if they just TRY it and see that feeding raw isnt that hard that maybe they will be willing to try some rmbs. And even if they dont make a full switch, having Luke (their dog) on commercial raw will still be better then having him on kibble.
So I ask. What are good brands of grain free raw? Also, what's the best yet most economical brand?
One last question. Are there any companies that offer VENISON ONLY (with no other protein like beef or chicken mixed in) commercial raw foods (also veggie free)? My mother's dog, Teddy (lab/shiba inu mix) has HORRIBLE allergies and is on a special venison dry dog food. If I can find a venison only raw food my mom might just give it a shot. I think it would really help him. He can ONLY have venison, so I dont know how he'd get RMBs, but a 'complete' and not supplemental commercial raw food would be ideal. Thanks!

Check out this thread - I think a few of the links have venison:

Also, what about that commercial whole prey thread you started about a month ago? The supplier you mentioned in that thread was expensive but seemed to be generally what you're looking for.
Nature's Variety has a venison (as well as a rabbit, chicken/turkey, and duck, I think) formula that is really easy to feed. It is grain-free, but does have veggies/fruit in it in a small amount. These are 8 oz patties, which makes it incredibly easy to just plop one (or more) in the food dish a couple of times a day...a great way to introduce to a raw diet without really having to dive in and "get their hands dirty" initially, while watching how well the dogs do with it. It is what I used before I had a chance to go RMB/meat shopping and I still give occasional meals of it. Plus, since the patties look similar to the patties people often make burgers out of, it may get them through the "gross factor" of feeding raw?
I don't have any advice on the other pre-prepared raw diets since this is the only one I've used personally, and I just started one of my dogs on raw not too long ago.![]()

Guili, the Nature's Variety venison patties have lamb heart and ground lamb bone... it's 95% meat/organs/bone, 5% veggies/fruit.
The only no-veg/fruit prepackaged raw I've come across so far is Urban Carnivore's whole animal carcass patties, but no venison, I don't think... many other "flavours" though!!

Yeah, I would feed it, but my parents would NEVER EVER do it. But thanks though. I'll be lucky if I can get them to even try commercial raw.Originally Posted by jlab
