    Default Pork and Pigs Feet

For an additional meat source, how is pork overall? I still have Tiegan on chicken for her main meat, we had a little problem w/ a runny stool when I gave her a raw egg and wanted to get a couple of solid poops before giving her a different source again.

How about pigs feet? These things are big... ;D I never paid any attention to these. I am thinking this is ok to feed if pork is ok, they are not weight bearing, correct?

Thanks for everyone's help and guidance,

    Doug

I know lots of people feed pork without a problem, but for now I have chosen not to. I worry about the bacteria (starts with tri-something?) and I've heard of lots of peoples dogs having issues with it. :-\

    Kate, you're thinking of trichinosis?

Doug, I personally don't feed pork to Henry, but am curious to see if pigs' feet are considered RMBs or not?

    Thanks....
I Wikipedia Trichinosis and not advocating, just posting what I found:
Trichinosis, also called trichinellosis, or trichiniasis, is a parasitic disease caused by eating raw or undercooked pork and wild game infected with the larvae of a species of roundworm Trichinella spiralis, commonly called the trichina worm. The few cases in the United States are mostly the result of eating undercooked game, bear meat, or home reared pigs. It is most common in the developing world and where pigs are commonly fed raw garbage.

There are also other major diseases that are spread to mammalian species through undercooked pork including echinococcus (a tapeworm that migrates to the brain and causes neurologic signs) and toxoplasmosis, which is spread to people and other mammals much more commonly through undercooked meat (esp. pork) than through other sources. I'm very hesitant to feed raw pork for all of these reasons...all are diseases that are found in the United States. I wish I felt more comfortable about giving it a try...

    That's the one Felicia!

I just figure that I can find lots of stuff without having to use pork, so why bother risking it? I guess if I was really desperate for different proteins I might be more inclined to use it, but I think I can work around it really easily.

    Same here.

I can get my hands on locally raised bison, goat and venison, so I just personally would rather use those than pork. :-\

We dont give Tsina RAW pork cause of the foot and mouth disease and the double dead meat... But we do give her RAW beef... The bones with meat on them to clean her teeth =)

I tried pork neck bones with the cat (Zephyr) and Ferret (mizu)...ehh, they weren't a hit, needless to say they got pitched. No more pork for those two, they just didnt like it.
