I'd been lurking for a couple weeks in training and health - we get our puppy in 4 weeks
Never looked at RAW because I didn't consider it something I'd do - raw meat grosses me out.
then I got curious and started reading - all kinds of health issues our previous lab had were mentioned as being helped by a raw diet - Crap, now I've got to seriously look into it!
So I think I've been doing my homework and I'd like to hear what your opinions are for my pups first week on RAW.

I can add some fish oil if you think it would be wise.
I will be adding pork, beef, duck, venison - I can't wait until hunting season!
My husband is all for the idea- thank God cause he'll be cutting it all up!
but he is laughing his a** off that I wanted to do this!
Let me know how I'm doing.
My dog doen't have a name yet, but I've allready bought him two chickens ;D
I'm a newbie myself, but good luck with your pup! Hopefully others will be able to advise further.![]()

Looks like a pretty good start except for the veggies which are not necessary (a carnivore's digestive system is not designed to absorb veggie nutrients).
I'd like to see you go a little slower in introducing new proteins. For example, I think that it would be better to feed what you have for the first day's diet over the whole first week. The next week you can introduce mackeral a couple of times along with the chicken organs. The third week you could feed the chicken and fish like week 2 but introduce eggs once or twice. By the forth week, you can combine them all as you describe for all seven days (without the veggies of course). Every week after that try to introduce one new protein source each week such as beef in week 5, pork in week 6, turkey in week 7, duck in week 8, venison in week 9, etc.
Dana/Fall River has a lot on her website about feed a puppy raw. She is a wonderful resource. So is jlab. They both have been feeding raw longer than a lot of us put together.

Thanks for the responses.
I have had a great couple weeks reading on here.
thanks Jlab - I've been trying to lean toward the whole prey - my vet, who is supportive of RAW was encouraging some veggies a couple times a week since they are in the pre made raw foods.
I don't eat veggies much myself so I actually make veg purees to hide in pasta for me and my kids! Probably be real easy for me to add or NOT.
I appreciate the info on slowing down even more, and repeating that first day, hadn't been thinking of fish and eggs as a 2nd and 3rd protein. Don't want to shock this little guys system
thanks for the support.
That is great you have a supportive vet! I haven't even mentioned it to my vet, I'm afraid to. They are small town and old fashioned.Originally Posted by puppydaze
