I just bought two whole chickens. They were pretty cheap, so I figured why not?
They were in the refrigerated section, but not frozen. I just cut them in half so that I could put them in seperate bags and freeze them, and there was a bit of ice still inside them. :-\
So basically, they were frozen and then thawed, and now I'm freezing them again. I read somewhere that that was bad, should I just throw them out?

Not safe for humans, but dogs can handle a lot of stuff that we can't. I'm not sure.

frozen, thawed, then re-frozen, etc. is fine as far as i'm concerned. i buy whole chickens at costco for .79 per lb, and it's usually still a bit frozen by the time i get home and start hacking. i put some in the refrigerator for the near future, i put some in the freezer for the distant future, and i feed the rest. never had any problems.

Fine for humans and dogs. I never knew, but a few years ago I was talking to a friend that managed a grocery store and they freeze and refreeze all the time. By the time you get your meat home, it has likely been thawed and refrozen a couple of times already.

Does anyone know the rationale as to why it's supposedly bad? I don't think I ever learned that part, just heard it was a no no. :-\

a friend (adoptor of a puppy) works for public health as a an inspector - she says the logic came about because if you let something thaw to room temp or warmer then refroze it you could have issues but if you thaw it in fridge (or in winter here) you really are very safe
hope that helps
cheers

Kate,
My opinion only and it comes from doing research about dehydrating. I am betting that the fear is that after thawing meat that more bacteria is there, refreezing does not kill the bacteria but only stops the growth. Make sense?
