I remember you saying something about some fish being OK and others not.... I don't remember why...?
I know you said mackerel was OK, what about smelts or sardines (not canned, the whole fishes...)
I can get Mackerel, but smelts and sardines are more Peanut-size.![]()

im not dana but I'll throw in my $0.02.
Sardines are good
Anchovies are good
Salmon is good (but I think you have to freeze it for a while before feeding it raw, cant rember why though)
Rainbow Trout is good
All of the above are high in omega-3s
My cat and ferret LOVE whole rainbow trout. Apparently its a pretty healthy fish to feed. ( http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=1521 ) its also high in omega-3s (much like salmon). If you find a small trout Peanut should be able to munch it down without much difficultly. If a 1 lb ferret can do it, Im sure peanut can. ;D
When shopping for whole fish make sure the eyes bulge a little and that the inside of the gills is pink/red. Its also reccommened if you yourself are eating raw fish (think sushi) or you are feeding it to a pet that you bring a smaller cooler with ice along with you when you go to buy the fish. It helps to keep the fish fresh on the way home from the store.
I've heard that tuna can lower vitamen E levels, but I cant remember WHERE I heard that or if its even true, maybe others can elaborate.
I've also heard to only feed fish once a week or less. Again, I cant remember why (maybe some of you guys can help me out). Anywhoo, fish is a nice healthy addition to the diet. And like I said my cat and ferrets L-O-V-E it.
Thats my $0.02.

Some salmon has parasites in it that can be killed only by freezing it for about 30 days before the dog eats it. Dana made a list of fish that was safe. Somewhere in here you could find it. Not sure where though. It was quite long and had both what was good and what was not. You might want to check her website, too. Might be something there.

Don't know if this wil help.
"Find out who you are and do it on purpose."
Some fish contain Thiaminase, an enzyme that inhibits thiamine (a B vitamin) absorption. This is only to be considered if you feed a large quantity of fish. If you only feed once a week or so, you might not need to be too careful.
Here is a partial list:
Fish Reported to contain Thiaminase:
White Bass Morone chrysops
Bowfin Amia calva
Bream Abramis brama (Not the U.S. fish; see this link).
Buffalofish Ictiobus cyprinellus
Bullhead catfish Ameiurus m. melas
Carp Cyprinus carpio
Channel Catfish Ictalurus punctatus
Fathead minnow Pimephales promelas (the red rosy is a color morph of this fish!)
Garfish (Garpike)
Goldfish Carassius auratus
Moray Eel Gymnothorax ocellatus (since someone recently asked about keeping the brackish water species with turtles )
Gizzard Shad Dorosoma cepedianum
Spottail Shiner Notropis hudsonius
Buckeye shiner Notropis atherinoides
Central Stoneroller Campostoma anomalum pullum
Common White Sucker Catostomus commersoni
Lake Whitefish Coregonus clupeiformis
b. Fish Reported to not contain Thiaminase:
Largemouth Bass Huro salmoides (I think thats actually now Micropterus salmoides)
Rock Bass Ambloplites rupestris
Smallmouth Bass Micropterus dolomieu
Bluegill Lepomis macrochirus
Chub (Bloater) Coregonus hoyi
Cod Gadus morhua
Crappie Pomoxis nigromaculatus
Eel Anguilla rostrata
Northern Longnose Gar Lepisosteus osseus oxyurus
Northern Pike Esox lucius
Pumpkinseed Lepomis gibbosus
Salmon Salmo salar
Brown Trout Salmo trutta fario
Lake Trout Salvelinus namaycush
Rainbow Trout Salmo gairdnerii irideus

Ok thanks!
We'll probably only have "fish night" once a week or so, so I'll go ahead and pick up some smelts, sardines and mackerel.![]()
