Since Erns has been sick 3-4 weeks ago he has been on rice then presciption kibble. I dont' like it, but feeding it so vets don't say well you fed him this or that so no wonder he is sick. He is almost at the end of the bag and I want to go back to raw.
Blood work all not back yet and no conclusion as to what is wrong with him. Vets say keep on strict kibble diet, but his coat is dandruffy again.
He vomits when he eats bones of any kind. I don't give him any fat as I try to keep his weight down. He has lost 4 kilo in the last few weeks.
What would you suggest feeding him.
TIA

Chris - you know me, I'm all for raw diets but I think you have to go along with the vets recommendations for food until the vet says he can go back to his normal diet. That being said, when the vet does give the OK, gradually introduce the blander type raw foods such as boneless chicken (no skin) or any cut of lean boneless beef. To keep him from eating too fast, you can cut up the meal into smaller pieces and stuff it into a kong. Start out with smaller more frequent meals and gradually increase the amounts and reduce the number of meals per day (depending on how he does) until you're back to his normal amount and frequency.
I agree with jlab
while Ern is healing the vets diet is probably the best bet for him - especially if you don't have a diagnosis
I'm not at all opposed to a raw diet but have two dogs here that can't tolerate raw and therefore I cook for my gang - if his tummy is really sensitive you may find you have to change your feeding methods..
hang in there

Eventually I would use a digestive enzyme with the raw diet when you try again. Caleb could handle it when I first switched him but the digestive enzyme took care of it all and now we don't have a problem. It is not uncommon for dogs to vomit when they are first switched over. That is why many suggest some sort of digestive enzyme.

Thank you for the advice. As much as I hate the kibble I will keep him on it.
He has ben on raw/cooked for nearly 2 years and never been sick except with bones.
Vets say it could also be cottage cheese, eggs or yoghurt that could be the problem. Hopefully I can introduce some of the foods he loves like fruit soon.
Luckily for me Ernie is a very slow eater. Even when he counter surfs he hold it in his mouth, hides, spites it out then eats it.
I will look at the enzyme.
