    Default Need Advice on Food

Parker could stand to lose some weight and I want to try to switch him to a different food to help. He is now eating One by Purina. What kinds of "diet" dog food has anyone tried and how have your dogs adjusted to it. Thanks.

Less food, more exercise as opposed to a "diet" food

Agree. Cut back the amount you're feeding and LOTS of ball-throwing. These Labs tend to get quite round if we dont stay on top of it

I agree with the others- less food, more excercise is the best way for Parker to drop some weight. The reason none of us have suggested a diet food is that the diet foods are loaded with fiber to make your dog feel full (which means you'll be cleaning up more poop). Adding some unsalted green beans to Parker's meals is a much better way to make him feel full.

One more for less food more exercise, works wonders just like with us two legged folks!

    One tuckered pooch!

Politicians and diapers should be changed frequently and all for the same reason.

less food and if he's hungry toss in a handful of frozen string beans.

I would switch to a grain free food and more exercise.

Our vet, way back when, thought HK was a bit 'pudgy'. She wasn't. But the vet suggested cutting back each feeding by 25%. Recommended doing that for 3-4 months when she should stabilize at a new weight, and then adjust again from there. She said it could mean another 25% cut back. HK lost the 5 lbs she was after and has stayed there ever since, at that portion of food.

More exercise will also have the added benefit of getting Parker to behave better too.

Many years ago I had a boy with a terrible weight problem, nothing seemed to work. At that time he was on a prescription food by Science Diet RD Dry. The pounds just melted off but lots of poop. Best of Luck
