"The Artist" and "Hugo" possibly are the biggest winners.

Hope The Artist wins!!
And so do I.Hope The Artist wins!!
And we're not alone. MANY others agree with us on the best 2011 movie. I haven't seen
"ExL&IC," "ToL," or "WH" -- and probably won't since B. often picks the movies we see and
those aren't on her list or mine, (well maybe, ToL for me).
But, wondering if the ratings on sites such as IMDb (Internet Movie Database -- the
"Wikipedia" of ALL movies, both now and that ever have been) and "Rotten Tomatoes"
(a summarizing of film critics' reviews), I compiled the list below. The evening of Feb. 26th
we'll see which site is the best predictor of winning the Oscar for best film.
While "Hugo" garnered 11 AA/Oscar nominations to "only" 10 for "The Artist", at least 3
of "Hugo's" noms were as candidates for CGI awards (which were not a factor in "The Artist").
So, leveling the playing field, within those categories in which those 2 were both competitors,
"The Artist" had 10 and "Hugo" had 8.
In the list below, the first set of numbers is the average consensus rating of registered IMDb
users on a 10 point scale. The second set has the percents of critics (top critics/all critics)
surveyed by "Rotten Tomatoes" who rate the film great (i.e, "ripe" and not "rotten").
Film Nominee___________________________##/10____(TOP Critics/ALL critics)
The Artist_____________________________________8.5/10________100/97
The Descendants_______________________________7.9/10_________90/89
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close_________________6.3/10_________51/47
The Help_______________________________________8.1/10________68/76
Hugo__________________________________________8.2/10________92/94
Midnight in Paris________________________________8.2/10_________95/93
Moneyball______________________________________7.8/10________97/95
The Tree of Life_________________________________7.1/10_______insuff/84
War Horse_____________________________________7.4/10_________82/77
IMO, "The Artist" is the best picture and its leads are the best male actor AND
the best female supporting actress, plus the best screen play and best director.
And, unquestionably IMO, Michelle Williams is the best female actress for her role
reincarnating Marilyn Monroe in "My Week with Marilyn." Incredible performance!!
[FWIW, To my surprise (as an avid follower of IMDb), I found the ratings of the top
critics listed on "Rotten Tomatoes" were closer to my judgments than those on
IMDb.]
ETA:
If the "Top Critics" surveyed by Rotten Tomatoes are more representative of the AA
voters, then for Best Picture,
The most likely choice_________________"The Artist"
Next most likely______________________"Moneyball"
Next to that most likely________________"Midnight in Paris"
While IF the registered voters on IMDb are more representative of the AA voters, then
The most likely choice_________________"The Artist"
(Tie, toss up) Next most likely___________"Hugo", "Midnight in Paris"
More ETA:
And here's another (fairly reasonable, IMO) set of predictions for all the categories:
2012 Oscar Predictions | Filmmakers, Film Industry, Film Festivals, Awards & Movie Reviews | Indiewire
It gives both their best guesses as to winners plus most likely spoilers for each of the
award categories.

"The Artist" & "Hugo" tie for the most Oscars (5)
Academy Awards 2012 winners: Hugo, Artist tie with five statues apiece
"The Artist" did win for best film, director, and actor (also maybe screenplay?) -- IMO it should've won a few more.
