A couple adopts a little girl from the orphanage and things don't go quite as planned...
Rented it for Halloween. Thought it would be a good scary movie as the little girl looks kind of ghostish. Strange and frightening things begin to happen when little Esther arrives at her new home, but not everyone thinks it can be the sweet little girl who is behind them.
I was quite disappointed in this film as it turned out to be something totally different than what I had thought it would be. The opening scene is just awful (sad, gross and confusing) and the violence scenes are pretty gruesome.
The movie is dark and moves fairly quickly. It does jump around and hint to things that happened in the past, but you don't really get a full explanation, although I'm not sure one is needed.
I don't recommend this film to anyone.

Esther turns out to not be a little girl, but a 33 year old woman with a rare form of proportional dwarfism that allows her to maintain the 12 year old girl look. This is especially creepy in the scene where she tries to seduce her new "father". I found that scene to be disturbing because the actress is obviously not 33. I hate that they think mom is well enough to adopt, but the first weird thing that happens, they choose to believe the little girl over mom. They don't have much faith in their loved ones.

Thanks because I thought it looked good but I trust your judgement!
I just watched it last night and I was very disappointed. It is labeled as a horror film and it is clearly not. Its more of a thriller I guess. And it wasn't that scary. How many freakin' times do they do the whole slide open the bathroom mirror followed by the creep camera shot coming in behind the mom and then she closes the mirror and..nothing. *rolls eyes* And I'm sorry, but the kids being afraid of the orphan is one thing...but keeping her secrets and not telling mommy? No chance. It was way too long and the ending was ridiculous.
SPOILER ALERT:
The ending? When the mom is pulled under the ice and then stabbed multiple times and then is able to pull herself out of the pond and carry her child up the icy hill like nothing is the matter? Ummmmm...NOT

It creeped me out too, especially the seduction scene. That was just too much. I went to the theatre to see this and was bummed I wasted the money.
i thought it was ok...and yeh, the ending scenes were a bit far fetched.
Ok that answers my question from another thread - not highly recommended (plus I just read your hidden section so I know the ending - I couldn't help myself!)
From your reviews it does not sound at all like what I woudl have expected.
Well for the record, bbbbmom ended up liking it after she watched it (didn't you, Julie?) I guess maybe I was more disappointed that it was a ghost-ish type of movie like I thought it was going to be.

yeah, I liked it, just because it was a different outcome than I'd ever seen before.
