Movie: The American

Directed by some guy with a Scandinavian looking name.

George Clooney is an assassin or spy or gun builder not sure which the film never really made it explicitly clear. It opens with him in bed with a woman (tastefully done) and then the next day assassins try to kill him. He kills one, then his girlfriend (not sure why) and the other and takes off in the assassins car. He ends up in Rome where he contacts his handler who is a shifty guy.He moves to a small town in the foothills of the Italian alps. Not sure I think it was Abruzzo? Is that a city in Italy and proceeds to romance a prostitute with a heart of gold while being commissioned to make a specialized gun.

Plot was easily guessed. The scenery kept us watching. Lots of gratuitous female nudity.

It wasn't awful, but I can't recommend it. Reminiscent of the original Jackal ( The Day of the Jackal (1973) - IMDb ) movie in the lack of
dialogue.

We just watched this last week. It was slow, but then I had to finish it to find out what was going to happen. I hated the ending.

It had a very foreign film feel to it for us. We enjoyed it. But...thus the sad ending. Americans like a happy ending. :shrug:
